A winner and a loser

I went 1-0 for yesterday's crocking.  I had good results with the applesauce and a failure with the caramel sauce.

Above is the applesauce recipe I used.  It said to use 1-2 cups of water so I used 1 1/2 cups.  This was too much water so I would recommend cutting it down to 1/2 cup.  Otherwise, everyone liked it. Total cost was about $6.

Overall score: 4

L: Delicious
A: It's OK
Mom: Pretty good.  Easy and healthy.  I'd make it again.

The caramel sauce was a fail.  I'm not really sure how I could mess up a recipe with one ingredient that you don't even open.

Recipe: Cook one can of sweetened condensed milk in crock pot on high for 4 hours.

Result: Thicker, sticky sweetened condensed milk that tastes the same.

Possible fixes: Cook it longer

Overall score: 0

Tomorrow I am making Crock Pot oatmeal.  I'm excited to see how it turns out and share the fun with my co-workers!

Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner!

So, last night's dinner was so good, I really wish I had made more so I could eat it again today.  I think the total cost was around $5 for the whole meal.  My math skills do not allow me to figure the cost per meal, that would be waaay over my head!

Cashew Pot Cashew Chicken
Overall score 4.333 Stars on a 5 point scale

Comments from the Peanut gallery:
L: Total score 5
"It's spicy!  Yummy! I would do less spicy-ness.  It has a good taste.
Make it again? "If it is less spicy."

A: Total score 3
"I didn't really like it.  I would do way less sauce."
Make it again? "Maybe"

Keep in mind that we take A's comments with a few grains of salt.  Her 3 is a 4 for anyone else.

Mom: Total score 5
"Delicious. I could eat this every day."
Make it again? For sure.

Crocktober Day 1

Today may be Day 3 of October but it's Day 1 of Crocktober.  I'm totally cheating because I actually only have to cook 12 dinners in October but I'm planning to test out a few sides and snacks just for fun.

Day 1 Recipe is Cashew Chicken. It LOOKED really good in the pot when I left this morning.  Hopefully my automatic timer works and dinner is ready when I get home.

Let's go!

I'm not really sure where the idea for Crocktober came from but I am pretty sure one of my favorite authors, Jen Lancaster mentioned it in her latest book, The Tao of Martha.

It seemed like a normal undertaking, just cook all meals for the month of October in a Crock Pot.  Seems easy enough, I mean, the kitchen is closed Tuesday, Wednesday and every other weekend anyway.  Let's get crockin'!
